I filled up with gas this morning, drove 20 miles, restarted, drove 10 miles, tried to restart, and the car acted like no throttle or fuel starvation. I had it towed home. I hope it is not the fuel pump, and even wondered if I got some water in the gas. Was thinking about letting pressure off of fuel rail, and checking to see if the pump would put pressure back on. Would using some starter fluid to determine fuel or spark problem be OK? What other things can I check? I believe you have to have a scan tool to read the codes on this year, is that correct? Now, the car will not even fire at all. Thanks for all help! I know I need fuel and spark, what is the easiest way to test for spark on this year?

bad starter maybe? has your starter ever been changed that you know of? could be a lot of things what kind of noise does it make when you try to start it? or will it even turn over? I'd start with the altenator, battery, and starter those are essintial for your car to start so start with those things, do you ever pay attention to your voltmeter when driving also?

It turns over fine. It is a spark or fuel issue I believe.

Checking the fuel rail is a very good place to start. Rule that out first, as it'* the easiest. Checking for spark is easiest by simply pulling a plug, or plugging a new plug into an existing wire (1, 3, or 5) on the front of the engine. Have someone crank, and watch for a spark. Check the connector to the ICM under the coils. Make sure you don't have any moisture or corrosion in there.

The 99 requires an OBDII scantool to pull codes. You really should do that. It can help pinpoint the problem. Can you borrow or rent one?

Thanks for the reply, I will go out and take of the engine cover today and do those two tests. Where should I look for the ICM on this year? Will also try and get a scan tool.

ICM is directly beneath the coils, just to the left of the front valve cover as you face the engine. You'll probably need a short slotted screwdriver to unscrew the retainer in the connector.
