Default Loud Whine (*NOT* Power Steering) Updated- Motor Mount

I wish it was a supercharger but its not :?

It was fine for atleast 30miles or so to go pick up my brother, but when ipulled back into the neighborhood there was a very loud squeel/whine ....the next turn to my street it did the same, so i started to swerve side to side and it squeeled turning right...

i came home and raised the hood, gave it a little throttle sounded fine, turned the wheel all the way to the right gave it some throttle and when i let off i could hear it again, only fainter....i turned the wheel to the left and did the same and it was fine...i went back in and got my mp3 player and took a go around teh neighborhood and recorded it but it dissapeared

im glad its gone but i wish i had found what it was....for a while i thought it was the brakes but i heared it at a stop so...that threw me off a little...power steering maybe? and the sound came from the passenger side...

I would say power steering is the likely number 1 culprit, especially since moving the wheel changes it. Perhaps give the fluid a check?

mmk well i checked the fluid several times and oh man was it low.... idk how i let it get like that but anyway

so i put some in it and actually i filled it just a tad over the fill when hot line, and it was running temp, so after that it was fine, and now its doing it again....it seems a tad bit worse now too...i checked the fluid again and its still just over the hot fill line

tomorrow im gona try and get under her and check the all the hoses....or when it stops raining again...not sure if i can get her in the garage....the Cougar is on one side and her former guts and the lawn mower on the other

well untill i get around to it any other sugestions as what to check?

CHECK THE LINES....there should be a PS cooler...looks like a CPU heatsink...check the hoses and such.

mmk, more to it now....info i have gatherd....

i have totaly ruled the brakes out

its ALOT worse in reverse
and in revers kinda sounds like metal on metal squeel
in drive its like part squeel part hissing

its not so bad at like 15+mph but still noticable,

nothing noticably has been lost due to any leak...so far from what i can tell

i kinda started to think, could it be the axle?
it doesn't sound like the noise gets 'faster' with more speed, its kinda the same constant thing...i dont know if you understand what im saying with the nosie getting faster but that about the best i can word it

now im getting worried....im gona stop drivin 'er, she is parked till i figure this out...

Check the tensioner. A week or sticking tensioner can fool you VERY easily. I had the same issue not long ago on the Zilla, and it was the accessory tensioner causing the issue.

its progressivly squeeling with less turn of the wheel, at first it only did it turning right and now sometimes it does it going strait...checked the hoses and lines and didn't find anything interesting or odd, the hissing has now gone away and its a bit louder of a squeel...

so, yeah, i cant get it to make any unusuall noise in park....so its hard to pin point exactly where the noise is coming from...and she hasn't goten hard to steer at all...

dad says from my description he is leaning towards it being the rack & pinion, he "hasn't" heard the noise yet, and hasn't drivin the car for himself...

so...yeah...imkinda left to drive the bonneville....which is gona suck, hopefully if something gives out it is't gona leave me completly stranded w/o any steering capability, time to drive like a real granny

Did you check the tensioner? Is the mark in the 'good range'?

i was doing my homework and dad finally decided to have alook for himself...and a little while later he came back in and yelled for me and i came out and he says come here....and we go out to the car, and hes like you tell me whats wrong...he gets in starts the car takes it out of park and back in...and i watched my engine friggin pick itself up and attepmt to make about a 1/4 on itself and im like ****!!!

i have no idea how i didn't feel that thing jumping around under the hood...there is no way i didn't feel that but i didn't... :? WTH...

i am realiseing now that atleast for the past week the car could have totaled itself at any givin point that it was in gear :(

alright probaly my last post on this thread...unless i get some replys but w/e

i have gone through it now and im pretty sure i have found the problems...and cost

engine mount obviously rubber part completly disconected, the saftey clip held it though...
squeeling, probaly the brake pads being low, right side was lower than the other and the squeel tab was touching...which explians the squeel withough touching the brakes, and while im at it the rotors need a definate turning

engine mount about $35
Brake Pads up front about $25
turn the rotors about $10 each
