Default A Little Help Please

Nosing around under the hood, I noticed these marks that seem to be made from some sort of fluid that must have been thrown from the AC compressor clutch. I have no clue if it is a recent occurance or not. It doesn't appear to be fresh. I didn't think that there was fluid in the AC compressor clutch. If there isn't what might have caused this? Thanks.

Well, do I get some sort of prize for posting a stumper? I'm thinking the previous owner heard something in the clutch area and sprayed some sort of lube on the clutch.

you may be correct about it being spray lube. could be belt dressing too. personally I would clean my engine and look for "new" stains

The air conditioning system uses oil to lubricate the compressor. When the front seal on the compressor fails, that lubricating oil comes out and gets thrown by the clutch assembly. Anytime you see oil around an A/C fitting, it is a telltale for a leak. If you still have cold air, you probably won't for much longer.

Get a UV light and see if it glows, chances are the seal broke.

A little FYI, UV lights only work when a UV leak detector was put in the system first. When the seal on the compressor leaks it will throw oil from the back side of the pulley instead of the front. This appears to be something from the front of the pully and since the front of the pulley seems to be shinier than everything around it, someone has sprayed something on it and it got overspray on the hoses near it. It was probably lubricant because they thought the clutch was sticking. It seems the car has had a recent AC problem.
