I followed Danthur'* instructions to change the accessory belt. For the most part, it was very helpful, but it took far more than an hour to do the job. Here are two things I encountered:

Several other sites, including the service manual, suggest supporting the engine with a jack stand. I used a block of wood under the oil pan as was suggested elsewhere. Danthur, I don't know if you want to add in your instructions specifically that it is NOT necessary to support the engine if your are only removing the spacer. In fact, the spacer only became loose when I removed the support and let the engine sag.

The second thing that slowed me down a lot was that the spacer didn't come out nearly as easily as implied in the writeup. In fact, the only way I could get the spacer back in was to file the edge off opposite corners of the spacer so I could tap it in. The other option would have been to loosen the top bolts slightly, but I couldn't get the right combination of sockets to fit on the bolt to loosen it.

Other than that, Danthur'* writup is the only one I've seen that tells you how to change the ACC belt without actually removing the mount, and everything else went without a hitch.

Thanks. There'* no need to support the engine. The motor mount is plenty strong. If you look close at the spacer, it is actually at a very slight angle on one side. makes it go in much easier.

I realized after the fact that the engine didn't need support. Because others suggest supporting the engine, I thought it might be useful information for first timers like me doing the belt to know that it does not need support.

BTW, your hammer might have helped today!
