Under your ashtray, you'll find a screw. Torx, I believe. Remove it. Remove the shift **** (small clip facing forward, pull it out and the shifter lifts off). Pivot the console cover up. You can access everything under there. You'll probably find you need to replace the switch pod for this repair.

if it'* like my '95 SSEi, the switch pod is removed simply by prying it (gently) with a screwdriver up and out of the console cover. for more info on bulb replacement, see topic "Shift/Traction/Ride Console Switch Illumination" http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...pic.php?t=3029

You CAN open it that way, but it can be difficult sometimes. It'* better to lift the whole console and push the switch pod out from the under side. Depending on how your harness is routed, this may be the only way to disconnect the pod, too.

Pull the lid.....it'll prevent you from damaging the pod. Only takes a couple extra minutes to pull the screw and clip, and you have the added advantage of being able to clean up and lube your shift quadrant while you're in there.

I have a '94 SSEi and the buttons for Ride & Shift near the gearshift are sticking (got the car used and it was, sadly, poorly maintained). Is the method for removing the console to get to the buttons the same as was mentioned above for astrobird'* '97 SSEi ? Also, any idea how long it would take to get it apart & then back together for someone fairly mechanically inclined? Hour? Weekend?

The LEDs on the Ride lights are both on but one button is stuck down. I've read in other posts that both lights being on means there'* possibly a suspension problem but I'm hoping it'* just because it thinks both buttons are being pressed at the same time. For the Shift buttons, I think one of the LEDs is burned out but the button action is so nasty (sticky & gritty like soda got poured on the console and it got dirt in it before it was cleaned up) that I just want to take it all apart, clean it up, and then see what doesn't work.

I'm fairly sure the 1994 is the same as a 1997.
