I was under the car changing my oil today and I noticed a clip came loose on this rubber boot thing was loose. For about the past 2 weeks, when i make a left turn this wheel would squeak. I rplaced the clip with a hose clamp because I couldnt get the clip back on. Will this be ok?

That would be the cv/axle boot, they often tear but I guess it loosing a retainer is easily possible.

they have kits for them but they lost popularity, make sure it has axle grease if you were having a leak.

If the gears within that boot get dirt or sand in them the fun ends quick.

As far as being "ok" it has to be on there good and have a tight connection. Either way replacing the axle is a pita.

Well that one wheel has been squeaking for about 2 weeks. also my steering wheel has been cockeyed to about 10 o clock when going staright. im not sure if the problems are related. its very possible dirt and grime have gotten into the boot.

If dirt got in there plan on replacing the unit to make life easier.

just over 100 bucks I belive autozone/napa or something.

As far as steering goes, that could be a problem with the tierod out of adjustment or an alignment problem.

sqeaking is brake related? if you press the brakes does it go away, My 94 olds 88 had a failed passenger front caliper same with the current ssei lol.

As for the squeaking I kinda figured it was the brakes. It only happens if im going over about 15 mph. Honestly Im pretty much driving the bonne until it dies. I feel bad because I only come on here when I have problems with the bonne. I never post saying 'The bonne has been running spectacular for 8 straight months'. I can deal with the cocekyed wheel and the squeaking I just dont want my wheel to fall off when Im doing 95 on I95 on the way to work.

With the way a lot of folks drive their cars on here they are prone to failures, not exactly the grandma cruising group lol. the majority of people here have cars over 7 or so years old so stuff breaks the important part is how to fix it right on the cheap side.

This site is based around "my sh*ts broke" thats what its for man.

anyway the only way I can vizualize a failure is if the axle failed and wore out over time, it could snap and do some major damage to the diff in the trans since it would be freewheelin there. the wheel could not fall off, however if the issue is not addressed it could cause major money trouble later on. just like any car problem.

The Constant Velocity joint doesn't actually have gears Hans.. it'* a joint.

Sounds like a new axle is in order here.. The good thing is an axle for this is no more than $60 and takes about 1/2 an hour to replace at a garage. Hour at home.

Would a new axle fix the cockeyed wheel and the squeaking? I put a hose clamp on that boot Im hoping im doing more good than harm. This car is falling apart before my eyes. You should see the seat, broken in three places. These are tales for another post.

The car makes the awful hum when driving like 'hmmmm hmmmmmm hmmmmm' when im driving and is faster as I increase speed. At 35 and then at 70 my car has a very bad vibration. Are all of these issues related?
