Default knock on start up then stops

Ok I shut my car off today while gassing up and after I started it I head what sounded like a top end knock. It lasted about 3 seconds then stopped.

I shut it off again about 5 miles after and same thing. I checked the oil and it was down 1 qt but the PSI was still 58.

I replaced the qt of oil and let it sit for awhile and started it no noise. Is about 48 degs here now.

I left it sit 4 hours and started it no noise. Could this just be from being down 1 qt ?

With the oil being cold and low it was probably a lifter that bled down or might have a tiny bit of carbon plugging a small passage.

Try dumping in about a quart (litre) of transmission fluid in your oil. The detergent in the trani fluid should help loosen up and dissolve the carbon and will have no detrimental effect on your engine provided you change your oil every season.

in both cases the motor was hot 180 degs. Sorry if I didn't convey this but it happened after I stopped to fuel up and again 5 miles later.

Then it could be from being down a quart.......usually it takes about 2 qts low or if not on level ground or high cornering/accel/decel forces........ I still think it'* possible for a lifter to stick even when the engine is warm.

What oil do you run. You may want to consider swithcing to a heavier oil or adding Lucas oil stabalizer to it. The Luca is good stuff
