Got my 97 Bonnie fishtailing on the highway in the snow this mornng and sideswiped the guard rail twice. I thought both my front headlamp assembly and rear signal assembly were both broken (said they were not working on the console display in car) but when I came home from work and went out in dark, all the lights are on in the right rear and the front has a high beam and signal light.

Is this just a change in lightbulb needed for the headlight? If it is, it should be easy to replace as there is no more glass covering it! All of it smashed off!

The rear light assembly is now detached from the car but everything works and as I am poorer then poor, it will have to do for now!

So, anyone, could it be just the bulb and if so (I know this is stupid!) how do you change it?

It'* just a bulb. The problem is it will blow out again if it gets wet. You will need to replace the assembly.

Augh! Well I guess that is fairly easy to do isn't it? Get one from the wreckers and do it myself... You are the mechanical guru here... can I change it up quickly considering it 7 F outside this time of year!!! I need the car for Monday (driving in the dark) and don't want to get pulled over and no one is open on the weekends so this has to be a DIY job!

I tried to search for installation instructions but to no avail.... I am "thinking" it is the bolts on top that hold it right?

Agreed, anytime it gets wet, it will blow again, quite explosively if the bulb is hot. There should be 2 **** screws on top of the headlight assembly that hold it in. With those out, it should slide up a little, and out. That is assuming damage is not hindering typical movement.

Yes, go to the salvage yard and pull one. That will teach you how it'* done. Not much to it really.

Any idea what size socket I will need to take? Dad has one of those new Black and Decker All In One ratchets that I can take with me.

I don't think there will be much damage up there. I looked under the hood and the bolts look fine etc.

Not off the top of my head, but most nut sizes are 10mm. Some of the larger ones are 13mm

Okay thank you! I will call the wreckers in the morning and see if they have any. Might just get them to take it off so it is there when I get there!! Too darn cold to be monkeying around with this stuff! It is the darn snow that caused this in the first place, well and my poor driving but driving in snow is new to me.. lessons get learned but they are ones that cost you money!
