Default Quick AC question

I finnaly got my AC working to where it doesnt leak..(never did) but the thing is I had to rig it so my compressor is always ingaged. What would make my compressor ingage and disingage quickly and multiply to where it doesnt cool. I used a jumper on the plug that goes into the back of the big silver can to short it out and it makes my compressor stay on all the time. Is this bad or can I get by with that.?? What should I fix to make it not do this and cycle normally.

It sounds as if you've defeated a system interlock ie. the high/low pressure cutout. These safety interlocks are in place to protect the system & the compressor and should not be overridden. Personally, I wouldn't rumn the A/C in that condition. There must be other problems existing there.

Do you have the proper amount of Freon in the system? If the compressor is kicking on and off that'* an indication of low Freon. The only time you'd want to use that jumper wire is to get the compressor to kick on when you're chraging the system. Once the system is at capacity, the jumper wire needs to be removed and the boot reinserted to the jug.

Yeh it has the right amount of freon just above i think 27psi .. The air worked for about a week then it quit , still having the proper amount of psi in the system... could the switch that tells the compressor when to kick on and off be bad??

yeah, the pressure switch could be bad. or stuck. if you know what you're looking for, tap at it. i've seen dealerships do this one before, and it works (if that'* the problem). sometimes, that switch needs to be replaced.

and don't do that to your compressor! it won't love you for it!

Well, when they evacuate the A/C system of all the old freon/non condensables, then refill with new freon, they fill the system with a specified amount of freon. It'* a volumetric value in pounds/ounces of freon. Also when evacuating with a roughing pump (vacum pump) they will do a drop test to check strenght & integrity of piping, joints etc. I don't know the test criteria, but the system must hold vacum for a certain time without showing any signs of lowering vacum ie. a leak in other words.
