where to buy dorman UIM
Honestly, I have been reading other posts.....I swear I have. I have actualy learned a lot...learned enough to know that I want a dorman intake....I just can not seem to find any post that have any info as to where to find one. I tried a couple of auto parts stores here in town and they dont carry them....these are the same guys that told me that the 3800 likes heat and changing from a 195* thermostat to a 180* was a bad Idea.....
Any help? I swear, I did a search.....could someone please point me in the right direction? I want to get this done before I need it done.
I am very new here, so if this post is in the wrong spot, sorry and if someone could put it where it belongs that would be cool.
Thanks in advance,
-KC-

KC, there are on line auto parts places that have the Dorman upper intakes. Haven't you done a search on the WWW for Dorman, I'm positive you'll get a return. Also one of our members here, Bob Dillon sleeves upper intakes. You may want to contact Bob. Is your engine drinking coolant?

I use Advance Auto parts .aka Checkers aka Parts America. The upper intake they order (1 day) is Dorman and comes complete with tons of gaskets including the throttle body.

You posted in the right place...
Lets talk thermostats... In washington it may be a bit of a cool climate and you may want to stick with the 195F thermostat so that the engine will get warm enough to burn off an moisture it has internally.. As well as warm you up on a cold day... The diffrence between 180 and 195 really is not that vast.. But most parts places and dealerships will tell you otherwise... I just make them give me what I want or I'll go elswhere...
The upper intake should be avaliable at almost any good autoparts store... It will be sold under the name Dorman or Motormite they are the same thing... Autozone, Advance or the Parts america group... Look on the advance auto parts website and you'll see what auto parts stores are in their group...
Good Luck

Thanks a lot for the info. I am not in any big rush, I do not realy think I "need" to swap it out just yet....but I realy do not know the history of this car and if there is a "upgrade" to a commonly problematic part I would like to get that "upgrade" unstalled soon expecialy something like a UIM that could only cause me more problems later. I am loving this site, big help....cant say it enough....thanks

You can check the date code stamped on the top of the UIM. It will at least give you an idea if yours is the original or not.
If it'* original, you'll want to look carefully for early signs of failure. You may find out that it has already been replaced.
