Don't fuel injectors make loud ticks once in a while?

The series 1 have a tendancy to make a lot of clatter when its cold, but I have had an actual ticking before and feul injector cleaner took care of it.

If a lifter sticks bad enough long enough the valve can take a beating leading to worse problems.Cleanliness is the key.Frequent oil changes and maintain the PCV/breathing system.I don't know the state of your engine or your maintenance schedule but I'd suggest using a good quality oil with a robust additive package that also cleans well.Pennzoil is one that fills the bill.It has good low temperature pumpability in the 10w30 grade and should work well for you in the winter as well as summer.Yeah,I know it gets cold in GR in the winter. In the past I've had good luck with Marvel Mystery oil freeing up stuck lifters.Added a pint to the crankcase and just drove it.But I was running at least 10w30 if not 10w40.This stuff is a solvent and will thin the hell out of a 5w30 .Especially in hot weather. But then again 5w30'* seem to thin out of grade rather quickly(Valvoline 5w30 has to be some of the worst) and I'd guess you run 10w30 in the winter and maybe something heavier in the warm weather considering the mileage on your engine.
