Have you replaced your defective upper intake?
Have you replaced your defective upper intake on you 3.8 Series II :?:
This is a campaign! I think we should all post here answering the questions below and send GM a copy of this post. There is obviously something wrong with there design and yet they continue to produce!
My idea of "EXCITMENT" is not putting my car in the shop!
If so, post here:
(Copy paste the questions below into your reply and briefly answer the questions)
What car had the problem?
What year is your car?
How many miles where on your Car?
Who did the repair?
What was the final cost of the repair?
Your contact info?

GM has known about this for some time. They have fixed the problem, but they won't do a thing for you. 80k miles on your car will be their excuse. Also, posting your email address publicly will invite spambots. I believe there was an attempt at this by a group of consumer advocates about 5 years ago. It failed miserably.
Not trying to be a doomsayer.....just letting you know.

NOTE: This was before I owned the car.
What car had the problem?
The Bonnie
What year is your car?
1995
How many miles where on your Car?
150K or so.
Who did the repair?
My dad (Mechanic) had to replace the whole engine. It was that bad.
What was the final cost of the repair?
Free for me. My dad got the new engine for free. It had 5K on it originally, probably from a Buick or something similar.

I should know, I work for GM!
There is this TSB though......A TSB is a Technician Service Buletin which is NOT a Campaign or Recall Notice!
Engine Coolant Consumption or Coolant Leak
(Inspect for Material Degradation/Replace Intake Manifolds) #01-06-01-007A
Models:
1995-1997 Buick Rivera
1995-1998 Buick LeSabre, Park avenue
1996-1998 Buick Regal
1998 Chevrolet Lumina, Monte Carlo
1995-1996 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight
1995-1998 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight
1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue
1995-1998 Pontiac Bonneville
1997-1998 Pontiac Grand Prix
All With 3.8L Engine (VIN “K” – RPO L36)
Comment:
Some owners may comment on excessive engine coolant consumption, or an engine coolant leak near or under the throttle body area of the upper intake manifold.
Cause:
Upper intake manifold composite material may degrade around the EGR stove pipe and could result in an internal or external coolant leak.
Correction:
1. Follow the upper intake removal instructions found in the Engine Unit Repair Section of the Service Information Manual.
2. Inspect the inner diameter of the EGR passage for signs of material degradation. Degradation will appear as “pitting” of the composite material in the EGR port passage.
3. If degradation of the upper intake manifold composite material is found, replace the lower and upper intake manifolds with the following part numbers:
> Lower Intake – 24508923
> Upper Intake – 17113136 (includes necessary upper intake plenum gaskets)
> Lower Intake Gasket – 12537197
4. Follow the lower and upper intake manifold installation instructions found in the Engine Unit Repair Section of the appropriate Service Manual.
5. If degradation is not apparent, skip to Step 7.
6. Verify the repair.
7. If no degradation is found, evaluate the vehicle for other causes of excessive coolant consumption as noted in the Engine Diagnosis Section of the appropriate Service Manual.
There is a couple of "alternative" choices now available to the Series II 3800 NA owner though.
Here'* the CHEAPEST!
http://www.bonnevilleattitude.com/st...3aea7add156b15
Next choice is the aftermarket Intake manifold replacement.

Finally there is the GM Dealer solution.

As to the question of continuation of the problem, well it has been solved with the NEW Series III 3800 which incorporates a metal upper Intake Manifold now.

Dont mean to keep this going, but...
I Dont mean to keep this going, but...awhile ago, within the last 3 months, GM reimburrsed me for a total of $650 for all repairs, parts, and labor on my upper intake issue...I was sent a card from them to fill out and send back with all my repair reciepts...1 month later I got a check. I do not know what the requirements were to qualify, all I remember is that the card they sent me had my exact VIN# on it.
