EGR trouble.
I just wanted to know if there is any special way to clean the EGR. Do i take the whole thing apart, should i replace the gasket, do i need to watch out for anything. Just stuff like that. Im askin cause i pulled a code 55 (Exahust Gas Recirculation Fault ( EGR Solenoid # 3 ) and could that code be a inter-mitten one? (i put up a thread up a week or so a go about whats its doin) just the car is runnin like crap and need to doin somin about it. would the EGR kill my gas mileage i only got 200 miles to the tank or does that should right? I also have a code 56 (Quad-Driver " B " Fault ) could these to be related? i did some searchin and found that i might need a BCS. I just want some ideas before i start throwin parts in.
thanks keith

Here'* an answer from a search on "cleaning EGR":
Does that help?
Search on cleaning EGR.. in the case of yours being digital..I'd heat up the car.. using adequate gloves..take it off.. spray TB cleaner into it..(it'll boil) and push the pintle in and out numerous times until it moves freely.

I disagree.
I have a digital EGR on my 93. I get one code or another about once a year. I spray it with a solvent (WD-40 will do) and brush the springs and shafts IN PLACE with a toothbrush.
Then I spray each spring and shaft with Rem-Lube. Code goes away every time. No reason to remove it for cleaning UNLESS the above doesn't work. If you remove it, you will need a new gasket.

Doesn't hurt to check, but I can tell you from experience that the fuses are not a likely (but are possible) cause.
Carbon buildup on the valve shafts is the most common failure by far.

i sprayed the EGR and lubed it so far code 55 is gone but im still gettin code 56 quad driver B fault. I know that it controls the EGR , TCC, and Evap purge. Im pretty sure my TCC is kickin in and i sprayed the EVAP and didnt get any stumble. But im still not sure about the EGR. Any ideas?
i was just lookin at prices for a EGR valve and i found 2 at advanced auto parts one was for 220$ the other for for 305$ and then i found one at auto zone for 62$. so my question is why is there a huge price gap and is there any brand i should stay away form on these.
Sorry Willwren i didnt think to add to ones of these.

im startin to think i need a new PCM cause my car is shifting hard and after i put the map sensor in my boost gauge was fine and actin the way it should and now it back to +5 or 6 PSI with the key forward but not started. and my code 56 just want go away i dont have any vacuum leakes, my Tcc is engaging and my evap purge seems to be workin. Im just not sure what else it could be other then a bad PCM.
Sorry for posting so much on this i just have no ideas left on what to do.

I get the impression that your EGR is no longer a problem and that it is not that common to have to replace them. Just clean and lube them per Bill Wren'* post above.
