Another A/C troubleshoot Question...any help is appreciated
My 97 Bonny a/c is not working properly. Did a electronics test and there is voltage to the high pressure switch but no voltage to the compressor. Checked the fuses on the firewall as well as the relays....all ok.
So I thought it might be the high pressure switch...since they do go out....but this did not make a difference after I replaced.
There is the correct amount of freon...ck'd with my manifold gauges.
The compressor does not go on....and I am a bit perplexed as to what the problem might be. All the switches inside the car work fine and I can hear them clicking on when I engage the ECC. However...as I said the compressor does not go on.
I did replace the compressor with a new delco unit last year...so I am pretty sure its still good.
Any ideas where to check next? I put my volt meter to the compressor connector and getting no voltage. Even the ground numbers look kind of weird.
Thanks in advance
Rich

hey Rich,
My 94 acted weird yesterday too.
new compressor last year.
Charged the system this year and it cooled nicely for two days.
next morning...no cool.
this morning checked and the AC is not engagiging the clutch...it is not trying. Checked underdash fuses..OK.
Cant find any othe fuse links etc....can you point me to the fuse links etc you talked about?

Rich, were you able to get pressures while compressor is engaged? As far as the hp switch is concerned the fact that you have power at the hp switch connector doesn't mean the hp switch contacts are closed. You can place a jumper across the hp switch connector then if compressor clutch engages, pull jumper out quickly and observe compressor clutch disengage. This will tell you if the hp cut out switch is faulty. Or, system pressure is above normal & hp cut out switch is functioning as designed. It is there for over pressure protection. There should also be a relief valve for over pressure.
