Default Couple exhaust questions

I was able to get on the gas a bit this morning when I stopped I noticed a nasty egg fart smell. It wasnt me and I didnt have any passengers. Im thinkin it has something to do with the exhaust, but what? it'* all fairly new, the muffler and pipe about 7 months and the the cat about two months old. When I hopped on it getting on the highway I think I saw quit a bit of smoke coming out of the pipes. I say I think because 6am its still pretty dark, it might have just been dust. I'm also noticing quit a bit of carbon on the exhaust ends.
So my questions. What would cause the horrible smell and carbon on the exhaust ends?
Im sure carbon is normal but this looks like a bit to much.

If anything, its probably not the exhaust, but the O2 sensor.

If it is the o2 sensor is would there be any other signs of it being bad?

That'* an indication of a rich AFR. Had the car warmed up yet? If not, it'* alot more likely to get that, especially with the smaller pulley on a cold morning. The car is trying to adjust your fuel curves.

That smell is from the Cat trying to convert too many unburnt hydrocarbons all at once. As long as you don't get this ALL the time, it'* nothing to worry about. More frequent, and I'd change the O2.

Lousy gas mileage is usually a good indication as well

Are they using enriched fuel for the winter? In upstate NY they are required to by law and that will cause what you described.

I didn't know eggs could fart. Cool.

If the problem isn't all the time, and your mileage is good, don't sweat it.

Do you mean all the time "normal" driving or just when I really get on it? My gas milage isnt all that great, you probley get more miles than I do kilometers per tank. What about the heavy carbon, what causes that?
