What reconditioned manifold? Where'* it from? Where'* the crack? (can't see a crack through my blurred morning vision).

Did you stage-torque it? Anything in the way?

Fotunately, that is not a critical area of the UIM. No coolant on this end. To check to see if it is sucking air at that point, with the car idling, shoot a little propane from an unlit torch at the crack and see if there is any change in the idle speed or quality.

It is hard to imagine that only 5 ft-lb of torque broke that. The spec is 7.5 ft-lb or 89 in-lb.

Bill, the crack is under the bolt on the corner - it'* not just your eyes that are blurry this morning

You have to wonder why it cracked under so little torque. It must have been warped very badly or chemically weakened, or maybe just a factory defect. In any case, it would make me a little concerned about running that upper - especially if similar problems exist at the other end.

If it were mine, I might start saving up for a new APN upper and change it out before the snow starts to fly.

Now I would not drive the car and while it sits, and you're looking for a proper torque wrench, loosen all the rest of them.

If you're going to loosen them anyway, and since the crack isn't in a fuel/coolant/vacuum sensitive area, I would personally us some JB Weld to repair that crack.

Can we have a close-up of the graduation marks on your torque wrench?

That is the worst kind of torque wrench imaginable. It might only be accurate at mid-scale.
