93 Bonneville fuel gauge / loss of power
The first time it happened fortunately I was pulling into my driveway. I thought I was out of gas. Gas gauge showed 3/4 tank still. Put it in neutral tho and it started right back up. Hunny came home - took it out and filled it up but said it didn't take nearly enough gallons to say it was out of gas. After running it around the block a couple of times it ran fine. Set the trip meter and I've driven 120 miles. Fuel gauge again shows 3/4 tank but it started dying on me again - right in the middle of a busy intersection during rush hour traffic. Fortunately it will start right back up in neutral. I pulled over to a gas station but it took less than 10 gal. I sat in a strip mall parking lot panicking (I'm such a girl) until my head kicked back in and I figured traffic wasn't going to get any better. I got home safely (car died and restarted on me about 20 times) but have parked the car until I can get it in to a mechanic. Any suggestions as to what would be causing that? I have an unrelated problem (as far as I know) with some electrical issues but have posted that in the "everything electrical" forum. Thanks!

addendum: 93 Bonneville fuel gauge / loss of power
I forgot to mention that my "service engine soon" light came on about the same time as the car started dying on me the first time. In case that'* significant.

Possible answer.
I have a 94 bonneville that had that problem. Could be a lot of different things, but with mine it stopped power to the fuel pump, windows, and front seat. The other stuff was working fine. It turned out to be a corrosion in one of the connectors. Check the circuits around the driver side, below the carpet and stuff and see if anythings corroded. Then it just needs to be cleaned.

Please start out with the easiest free item. Techinfo has a great procedure for pulling the codes from the PCM.
Report those back to us and we can get a better understanding of the issue.
After that a fuel pressure test etc may be in order.

I had a similar problem with my '92.
I tried a new fuel pump and new fuel pump relay. No change.
In the end I took it to my mechanic and he told me that I had a coolant leak that had dripped onto the cam sensor and shorted it out, which was shutting off the car.
He found it by running a scan on the OBD-1.

While all the advice here is great, please read the requests above to PULL CODES. That'* where you start. Conjecture on this one will only get us more confused. It might be this or that. Or that or this.
If he has a check engine light, he needs to pull codes first. That'* where we start.

Thank everyone so much for all the help! I've printed all this out and it'* at my mechanic along with the printouts. Not convinced my mechanic fully understands my Bonnie tho. I don't suppose any of ya'll are in the Tampa-bay (FL) area? *sigh*. I'll keep you updated! Thx again! Nicki
