Air Filter Question
I have a 93 Bonne. I need a new air filter. I prefer fram. The # for it is CA6479. I was wondering if the CA6478 would fit my car.

If it'* SC do yourself and your car a favor and put the K&N in it. You'll never need another unless you change your intake. It will also flow far better than the fram. The more air the happier your car is

I was planning on buying a CAI for my car, so I don't want to spend the money for the K&N. This filter is only temporary until I get the money for the CAI.

When I do my CAI do I need to put the box around the cone like Willwren has on his? If so, what else other than plexiglass ca I use to make it look good.

I understand on not wanting a K&N now with your plans.I'm pretty sure that Will made that box himself. I know he did the laser etching himslfe. I think he has it there to keep it clean? I plan on an open box myself. I want as much air as it can get. You can always clean a K&N. Not saying he'* getting any less air, i just don't like any restrictions. I does look really good though.

The box is to prevent sucking in hot engine bay air. You want the cold air from the fender and behind the headlight. My next step is to ram-feed air into it from below the lower airdam, to further insure cold, and not HOT air.

With all the heat traped in the engine bay do you think it makes a differance? I would think improving the air flow within the bay itself would be more effictive. Like the ram air setup you are talking about, and then a way to vent hot air up and out of the bay. Maybe a point of negative air pressure on the hood?

I have a couple 'free' ideas for venting the engine bay until I can find some heat extractors I like (that aren't too hard to install). The colder the air the better for the intake. My box simply 'encourages' the intake to pull cooler air. The cold air supply will be dramatically increased with the ram air feeding in from behind the headlight from down below (look under the airdam on an SSE or SSEi, you'll see an opening underneath on each side in the shape of a D, with the curved portion facing forward). That hole is perfectly positioned to put a scoop and duct with 3" hose up to the opening behind the headlight, and a 3" hose fits. I've done it to prove it. This is one of my ongoing projects, as well as ducted air over the SC. But you're right, we need to extract hot air at the same time.

super easy way to lose heat learned from chevy pickups, remove that peice of weatherstrip from the back of the hood. the heat follows the curve of the hood up and out when idling, and the flow of air from below pushes it out the back of the hood on the move. i've had mine out for a while, no problems yet, but you do have to think about it, GM didn't buy that weather striping and put it there it it does nothing and you can't see it normally....
