Default factory alarm

This has happened twice to me so far. I go to get in the car after disarming my aftermarket alarm. I get in and try to start the car but it wont start. I thought it was the starter at first but I just did that. So I notice that the security light on the dash is solid and not blinking like it should be. So I think that the alarm is somehow arming itself without my knowledge which, in turn will not allow my car to start. After much frustration and attempts to start the car it will finally fire up.

Has anyone else had this kinda trouble? What could it be? A bad wire with the connection from the aftermarket alarm(because that is the alarm that I use all the time, never factory).

Thanks for any help you can give.

It'* None of the Above. The Security light is shared by the alarm and the VATS/PASSkey system. The symptoms you describe are a problem with your ignition switch/starting circuit, not your alarm (neither yours nor the factory'*). I _think_ your '94 uses the resistor chip in the key, rather than something in the ignition key lock, but in any case the system is not detecting the correct resistance value from your key, and locking you out for three minutes (while the light is on steadily).

Check that your ignition key is clean and not too worn. If you have a second key you can use, switch to that one and see if it helps. If neither key works better than the other, the contacts inside the ignition key lock itself may be dirty. Anyway, the system can't detect that you are using the correct key for the car; that'* your problem. (I think a completely-open or shorted key-resistor-pellet detection circuit causes a blinking Security light, not a solid one.)

I carry a spare ignition key in the car for this very reason. Well hidden, but if my primary key fails, I can still start the car.
