Plastic Intake Manifolds?
Hey Everyone
I have been hearing through the grapevine about car owners (not necessarily Bonnevilles) who are or have or are having problems with plastic intake manifolds and how they eventually deterioate.
I have also heard that once this happens engine coolant begins to mix with the oil causing bearing rod damage.
Is any of this accurate? Now I have a 165HP Series I and I have been told that my intake manifold is not plastic therefore I don't have to worry.
But for my Series II friends, maybe this has been discussed maybe not, or maybe this is some GM urban legend?
Since my next car will be a mid to late 90'* SSEi Bonnie, I'd like to hear your input

True on the plastic intake issue and in your case keep an eye out for other gasket leaks. Not a hard fix with yours and mostly a more expensive fix on the plastic units.

Sweet...believe me, after my frost plug/block heater problems the last thing I need is to have problems with intake manifolds, and other expensive problems..
one less thing to worry about :?

Once again the SC saves the day...I guess my mind has been made up, next car 92-99 Bonne SSEi....green...or red
They should have just stuck with the alloy manifolds in the first place as opposed to switching to plastic. Apparently the ally ones weigh 3.5 kg (about 9 pounds) and it made the car more fuel effiecient. I think over the long term you may spent more in gas then fixing a plastic manifold...but 3.5 kg?, c'mon...at least avoid the hassles when repair time comes around.
