TRANSMISSION OD QUESTION
I noticed another topic with someone having problems with OD not engaging all the time. I have the same problem with my 95 SE .... Sometimes the OD works and when I slow down, it drops out of OD and won't go back in. I tried what someone said about shutting the car off and the OD will work again. I checked the wiring to the Trans and it looks good. I had the trans replaced last Janurary and the one they put in had this problem so I had them install another one and this one has the same problem. This leads me to believe it'* not the TCC Selenoid on the trans causing the problem. They also put new fluid and filter in when they installed this tranny last Jan. I don't run a cooler either ... I didn't run on on my origional transmission and it lasted to 200K miles.
The car is completely stock ... Do you think it'* the ECM?
I know you will probably hook up a code reader but I don't have one.
I looked at sears and they have one for 96 and up GM'* .... Is the 95 different? is it OBD2? What would be a good reasonable priced unit and where do I get it?
Sorry for all the questions ....
Any help would be appreciated.

The 94 and 95 Bonnevilles are OBD1, with the OBD2 connector and codes. A 96 reader will not work.
You need a 16 pin connector on a reader capable of reading not only OBD1, but specifically the 94/95 Bonnevilles. My scantool (Actron) will work with the right cable, but my connector is a 12-pin. jr's3800 has a 95se, uses the same scantool I have (I bought mine on his suggestion) and he has both cables for it. He can read 87-95 PCM'*, I'm limited to 97-93.
We have a scantool registry in Techinfo. Someone might be close to you.

Did you replace your transmission or rebuild it?
If you replaced it what car did it come out of?
This is the problem I had and it turned out I put a tranny in with the wrong gear ratio mine was out of a Buick. The computer gets confused and will put the car into a limp mode that locks out OD till you shut the car off which reset the computer. I fixed mine by putting the computer from the Buick in to my Bonn has worked perfect ever since.

So where do I go from here? Where is the tag on the tranny ... On top?
If I get the info from the tag can we tell what car it'* out of? Is there only two eproms, one for the 2.84 and 3.06 drive gear ration? Could I just get a eprom in the junk yard, or could I order one of those High performance eproms to fix my problem.
The trans is out of warranty by now ... I don't want to pay someone to put another one in the car if I can get away with just a eprom fix.
Need some advice as to what to do ... Thanks for all your help so far.....

Is your "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light on? For getting the codes scanned find a auto parts store like Auto Zone, Checker, NAPA, Auto Value, etc.. that will scan the codes for free. I had mine scanned at Auto Zone.
I'm guessing it was me you read about doing the restart at speed to get OD (but not OD lock-up unless the engine was cold and the outside temps were under 50*).
Good luck.

My service engine soon light isn't on .... The OD problem didn't happen until after the transmission was installed. I don't have a clue what it came out of. I will check and try to find the tag on the tranny. I would like to swap computer chip to fix the problem. Will you be able to tell from the tag what car the tranny came from so I can find a chip. Can I just purchase a chip aftermarket? Maybe a performance chip upgrade that will also fix this problem.
