Slight Acceleration Difference
I just bought a Champagne 1997 SSEi to go along with my wife'* White SSEi. Also, I still have my 1995 Black SSE that I'm going to sell. So, at this moment, I'm the proud owner of 3 Bonneville'*. There'* some differences between the 2 SSEi cars.
1. The white bonny (126K miles) is a special 40th Anniversary Edition, while the champagne bonny (90K miles) is not. Aren't all the 1997 SSEi'* a 40th Anniversary Ed? If not, which one'* were included? How many were manufactured?
2. The white bonny'* PCM Cover is the round type, while the champagne bonny has the flat cover. What'* the difference? Is the PCM the same?
3. The white SSEi accelerates more smoothly throught out the rpm band, while the champagne SSEi accelerates more harsh at the low end and accelerates faster at the high end. The white'* gas pedal feels very light, while the champagne'* gas pedal feels heavier. The white bonny has the MAF Screen removed and a direct K&N Filter replacement for the stock filter. It seems the supercharger was rebuilt before I bought becuase it'* painted silver and the plugs and wires checked OK. The champagne SSEi has the MAF Screeen removed and a CAI pipe and 7 inch SLP Cone Filter. My mechanic said it needs new plugs, wires, maybe coils and tranny oil and filter. I already changed the oil with synthetic 10w-30. Could the acceleration and gas pedal differences be attributed to the plugs, wires, coils or tranny? Would the supercharger be the difference? Is the 40th Anniversary SSEi'* PCM programmed different than the standard PCM?
Here'* my list of changes to the champagne SSEi:
1. Autolite'* 605 Spark Plugs
2. Accel'* Blue 8mm Wires
3. Intense Performance'* 180 Degree Thermostat
4. Intense Performance'* Standard PCM
5. Fuel Filter
6. PCV Valve
7. Tranny Tune-up with Thrasher'* 4T65E Shift Kit
8. Oxygen Sensor
9. 3.4 inch Pulley
Hopefully after these changes, the champagne SSEi will perform a lot better.

Most likely. After a tuneup, they always feel loads better.
And you can check Techinfo for all the production numbers. (but just as a quick answer, its 637) they are very rare, but we have quite a few members with them.

637 40th SSEi'* with RPO code Y40.
Quite a few more SSE'* and SE'*. We have probably half a dozen 40th SSEi'* here. Not all were 40th'*. Call it about 15-20% based on productions numbers for 1997.
7, 093 cars were badged and RPO'd 40th Anniversary edition.

Throttle feel is probably throttle cable/linkage/TB. Clean and lube. There is no difference in your PCM'*. Do a full tuneup on both cars.
