I live in Newfoundland Canada, and we got about 16in. of snow last night. My wife took the car to work this morning and slid off the road into a ditch backwards, about 4ft deep. The car tires are off the ground cause the car is straight across the ditch, the front of the car is pointing to the road, now with all that said, were on the front of the car can I hook a tow rope to pull it out. I have a backhoe going down to the car at 9:00am tomorrow morning to pull it out so I'm in a bit of a rush for some good answers.

just in case you care when she went in the ditch the back of the car slammed into the rock face on the other side of the ditch, just from what I could see the damage is.

1. trunk lid bent and buckled
2. sides of rear bumper moved
3. tail light glass around the car on the snow

And god know what else when I have it pulled out.

What car is this?

You should be able to just hook up the subframe from underneath the bumper with a heavy duty truck strap and pull it out.

Thanks for the quick reply. It'* a 96 Bonneville SSEI. Sorry to ask, but would you have a pic of the subframe so I can see were I can hook it up to. The backhoe is 50.00/h so time is of the essence.

Anyone you know with a decent sized truck should be able to pull it out, just make sure they have 4 wheel drive and some nobby tires. The subframe will be located between your two front tires, should span the width of the car and have large holes in it. Mainly, you DO NOT want to hook up to any suspension parts or any parts of the engine, tires, etc.

Unfortunately a 4X4 won't pull it out, cause when the back of the car comes down off the rock face it will be all most sitting on it'* rear bumper. The reason I opted for the backhoe is he can put his bucket and feet down and won't side back like a truck will, if the truck can't pull it up on one pull it could do more damage to the car, but with a backhoe it'* one smooth straight nonstop pull.
As for the sub-frame, I know were it is, I was looking for the place on the sub-frame to pull from.

Depending on the type of strap/chain being used you can wrap it right around the front crossmember that sits under the front of the trans its one big peice that goes across
