***UPDATE April 9, 2006***

why would a brand new tensioner pully squeak? Is there anything I can do to fix it? I have tried WD-40, only works for a short time, as does everythign else. It is NOT the tensioner pulley as I thought it was. everything spins nicely. The alternator makes slight mechanical noises when turned, but the noise stops when a little water is sprayed on it, for only a couple mins though. WD-40 only works for a few mins too. I have done everything, I cleaned the whoel engine bay thoroughly last night, and sprayed some protectant (tire shine cleaning foam, I always use it for underhood) on it, it was quiet for the whole night. Then today, I started it up, and it was just squealing away. I sprayed a little protectant on the belt again, and it was quiet. I suppose this rules out any bearing or pulleys, etc. The belt itself looks like new though. There are no cracks or shining, nothing. The mechanics all said it was fine too. Looks like new. I don't understand it.
I took the belt off, and put it back on. It was quiet for a minute or so, then started squealing. It goes away under accelaration above 2k rpms, then comes back when the engine slows down.

I tried belt dressing, I will never use that again, it did nothing, it actually made it worse and was messy and my mechanic told me never to use it.

Where did you get it? I'd take it back! Do the bearings rattle if you shake it in your hand?

EDIT: I'm not sure, but can it be something with the tensioner assembly and not the pulley itself? :?

well my mechanic replaced it, so I am not sure where he got it. I think this is a plastic one. The squealing really makes my car sound like junk.

where are you spraying the WD-40?

I sprayed it at the pulley, in the center. Idk if I was supposed to or not, but the squealing stopped for now.

Also, I washed my engine bay today, I'll bet anything that had something to do with it (duh)

If I may suggest; It is not the tensioner'* pulley. If you are using the old belt, there may be some areas on the actual belt, which has accummulated patches of dirt. It is the that area, when making contact with the tensioner'* Pulley, which is causing the "squeaking".

Another note, would be, if there is also a standard, stationary "Pulley", independant of the Tensioner, there may be a build up of 'dirt patches' on that pulley.

BTW, I'm assuming that you had the 'squeaking' prior to replacing the new Tensioner >???

I take it your squeeking is back? Why tak ehte tensioner back for another. Maybe they forgot to grease it at the factory.
