Hi guys! I'm new but my SSE is not 1997 73,748mi, shaking.
Hi everyone. I like my Pontiac really well. I have owned one for too many years to post. When I drive my car above 55 mph it shakes in the steering wheel. I just had a new set of tires put on and it did not help the shaking. Does anyone have any suggestions to what this may be?
Also. The interior chimes have quit. Where is this located and how do I replace it? I don't think it could be a fuse.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did everything I could think of to get another 60k miles out of a set of tires. I even mentioned the shake to the tire dealer and he didn't know, of course! I have been thinking it might be something to do with the bearings. Could that be possible?

Well, considering I have not spent anything on the my car except routine maintenance, I guess its time to take it back to the dealership. Pray for me! I bought it new for my wife. I drive a C5 Corvette. She has a Mustang now. The Bonneville is our trip car. It gets great gas mileage.

Very doubtful on the bearings. One of my bearings was noisy for a whole year, and when I finally changed it, it was still fairly tight.
Bent wheel, balancing, alignment, bad tire.....
Also check that the rotors are flat against the hubs.. in other words that they were not put on so that the rust bumps are forcing them out of line with the rotation of the hub. There are 3 holes in the hub, and after a while 3 rusty bumps develop on the back of the rotor. Also, check for any debris on the back of the wheel where it hits the rotor, or on the rotor itself.
Torque the lugs evenly to 100 foot pounds
After that.... hmmm bad lower ball joint?

Well I have an answer for the shaking in my steering wheel. The wife or quite possibly I hit a hole and warped the front wheel. Now have any of you got any suggestions as to where I can get a wheel or where I can get mine fixed? The warped wheel was on the right front. For now we moved the warped wheel to the back. The car drives much better. Repair cost: $29.95.

www.transwheel will repair your rim or do an exchange. I think there are a couple others who do the same business.
