coil pack problem from cleaning the car
i was cleaning my car the other day, and i guess some simple green got into the bottom coil, well i noticed a problem when i was driving to work. The motor would buck and backfire and i would get no power, and it thought there was a serious problem until i talked to willwren, i explained the symptoms and here is the solution he gave me:
1. Disconnect your battery before you start this.
2. Unplug all your plug wires from the coils. (mark them if you need to)
3. REMOVE all the coils from the ICM (ignition control module).
4. Unplug the ICM harness from the ICM (you'll need a small screwdriver).
5. Get a can of WD-40, and clean all the contacts on the coils (top and bottom), and the ICM plug and jack. Both on the harness and the ICM. Let it drip and wipe it dry. All parts. WD-40 displaces moisture, and won't conduct electricity.
6. Put everything back together, and connect the battery last.
its a really simple solution to a dangerous problem. he also said that if u just ignore the problem u risk blowing the motor. I hope this helps someone out

Update. Heard from Jachin, and the problem is back, although this did fix it yesterday. I suspect more moisture perhaps in the firewall bulkhead connector. This may just take time to work itself out. He'* pulling codes right now. Moving this to 92-99. I'll move it to Electrical if the final solution dictates.

I do not know if i am way wrong on this or not , but I had pretty much same problem after I had a massive fuel leak and sprayed the engine off I got a "Check wallet light" and the car acted same as Jachin is describing . I had an extra MAF sensor dropped it in and ran perfect every since. I am still not sure what spraying it off had to do with MAF but that was my prob maybe just happened to go bad 1 min after I sprayed engine off?????

Interesting point.....Jachin, do you have an exposed cone filter on your DP intake? Did you get any cleaning chemicals on it that may have been sucked down the pipe to the MAF sensor in the TB?
