I was going to say to just put the L36 topend on it....but I remembered he would also have to change the heads, or maybe he could plug the injector bosses?

There is no easy way to get this puppy running, and a low-buck and low-time option does not exist for this. OR IS THERE?

Wilwren, do you suppose there is a way he can use an S1 L67 harness & computer? Would the fuel and timing maps be compatible?

Ah hell, that'* still gonna take time and money to do....3

EDIT: Just saw the post that he has the correct PCM/harness for the motor. But is that going to be compatible with his trans?

He'* kept his original trans, which is not the same gear ratio as the 96pcm. So yes, there'* a problem. Granted both the original and donor PCM'* are S2, but the LOCATION is different on where they're mounted and wired.

Heads are NOT swappable.

At this point, it would be far less headache and cost to sell that 96 motor and get the correct L36.

This isn't a popular option here but it still is..
You can use your original pcm, wiring harness, and get a custom chip with L67 tables in it from www.gmtuners.com .

On the Frankenbonne project, pcm location was totally different, similar to this one. I don't see that as a major problem. Merely a hurdle to overcome.

Get factory service manuals for both years and start the homework, since you have all winter you should be able to trace them all out on paper and come up with a plan.
