Back on topic (even drinking I was on topic lol)

Derek..lets us know how it'* going. There'* also a switch that is part of the locking mechanism. If you push the lever that locks on the door jamb stud down that tells the car when the door is shut.

Jwikoff, that same switch on the door locks is the one that keeps them on until closing the doors. I doubt both bulbs burned out at the same time. Check the connections. They have an odd way of making connection and can get corroded easily.
TIP: at the dealer those bulbs are about $8 special order...junkyard is full of them... (I have 3-4 spares as well)

well bad news. I dont have any assembly like that on my door handle at all, no wires leading up there or anything. also I unplugged 2 connectors that lead over to the door latch one was for power locks and one had 2 wires going to it and appeared to lead to the power door lock mechanism as well. i guess i am going to pull the latch out and look at that.

any other advice or what wires to look for leading where would be appreciated.

derek

It'* not on the handle, it'* on the latch. The switch on the handle is for illuminated entry. Not all vehicles are equipped with this option. However all 92-99 Bonnevilles have the dome light switch integrated in the latch instead of using the plunger type door jamb switches found in the 87-91.

The handle switch activates a 20 second illuminated entry timer within the RAC module which supplies the ground for the dome lights. If the door is opened within the 20 seconds, the domelight will continue to stay on until all doors are closed. Vehicles not equipped with the C97 option will simply illuminate the interior lights when any door is open. The wires that come from the latch are black and white. Follow them to the latch.

A broken latch switch would not cause the lights to stay on all of the time. You would have to have a short to ground on the white wire. I might suspect a headlight switch problem. Just for ***** and giggles, make sure that your dimmer switch isn't turned to the position that turns the interior lights on.
