Hi CVC please explain what you mean by “a few spits of gas come out of the nipple”?

If any fuel comes out of the vacuum nipple, on the fuel regulator, the regulator is bad and must be replaced.

Delco part #217-1422

GM part #17113346

Dealer price $69.64
GM Parts Direct price $34.00.

Default well...

if you pull the line off when not running after sitting,no gas comes out,but if you leave it running and pull the line off after the car idles for about 15 seconds gas lightly spits out of the nipple again only after about 15 seconds..

Yep John called it bad regulator.
Like JR said see if your car is included in the fuel regulator recall.

Good luck.

Default hummm...

does anyone know what years are in the recall ?? Will it hurt to drive like this until they can fix it ??Should I just bite the bullet and fix it myself ? I also broke the vaccuum line but used a pc of plastic line to repair it will this be ok ? It doesn't have to be gas impervious ?? The line that broke was a small dia hard plastic line I replacedit with a similar line but not sure if its gas impervious maybe the orignal wasn't either ????
Thanks guys

The line does not have to be gas impervious as it is a vacuum line not a gas line. Driving it like that will only hurt your hot starts and your fuel milage. Both will get worse as the FPR gets worse and leaks more.

You should NEVER have fuel coming out of the nipple on the vacuum side of a FPR. There is a diaphram in the FPR with fuel pressure on one side and engine vacuum on the other and "Never the t'wain shalt meet". If you are getting fuel leaking past the diaphram, it is unmetered fuel being injested into the manifold. Your therefor running rich. Hence the hard hot starts. Much like trying to start a warm carburated engine with the choke on.
