93 Bonneville power loss when AC on..
Hi
I have 93 bonneville, not sse. Car runs nice but when I turn on the AC I notice lot of power loss. I know its typical to loose power when running AC. But when I turn my ac on car takes hiccups if I go uphill or try to accelarate.
Also, different problem with oil pressure. when the car is moving the oil pressure seems fine when when in idle or not moving oil pressure drops. I checked oil and the level is fine. what could it be?
Any help, opinion will be greatly appreciated.

the oil pressure will always drop when the car is at an idle, when you accelerate, the oil is getting pumped through the engine at a higher pressure, so the gauge will read a bit higher than at an idle. as far as the AC and power loss, when was the last time the system was recharged? it could be low on refrigerant and shutting itself off under load, but still have enough to want to kick back on. run the AC on max with the fan on full at an idle and keep an eye on the clutch for the compressor (part in the middle of the pulley) and see if it kicks on and spins, or if it just spins for a second then stops and repeats that process. if it stops and starts repeatedly, then you should check to see if the system needs recharged, if not, then it has enough to handle an idle, but could be low enough, that under load, it thinks its low, in that case, i would have the pressure checked just in case.
hope that helps somewhat.

Hi FoxXx96SE
Thanks for your reply. I understand the thing about oil pressure. I don't think the AC is low on refrigerant. I get nice cold air all the time. I am sure that the compressor kicks on and stays on when I turn the AC on.
I will definately check out what you mentioned and will report back. Are there any other opinions for this problem. I know that this car is powerful but I just don't feel it even when the ac is not on. Any other recommendations?
Thanks
