Default Help me!! We are burning up! A/C Problem

Ok, The A/c was blowing out HOT air and someone told me the whole system needed to be replaced but he would try something that might get me through the summer. The metal parts under the hood would get nice and cold but still hot air. He said the little "flap" underneath that let the hot air in was stuck in the heater position and he couldn't get it unstuck. So I just kept cutting the air on and off on and off and finally it started working. It has been fine until my battery cables came loose and now after fixing that it is blowing out hot air again!!! What the heck could it be?
Thanks!!

What is the year and trim line of your car? Do you have electronic climate control?

It'* a 96; I don't know what trimline. (sorry, I'm car illiterate) It has power seats and locks, CD player and the a/c controls are buttons with a digital display. Does that help?!

you have the digital climate control. Is the display on it flashing? It sounds like the door that mixes the hot/cold air is stock in hot. When you disconnect the battery and reconnect it, the climate control system goes through a self diagnostic cycle in which the mixing door is opened from the full hot, to the full cold position and vice versa. It sounds like there is some kind of obstruction, or a bad actuator that is not allowing the door to move after it has been in the full hot position.

sometimes I notice the display flashing. Ok, so this could have something to do with the battery being disconnected and I'm not crazy?? Bad actuator, huh? Is that easy or difficult to fix? (translation: cheap or expensive??

I have never had to replace one of these before, or know of a price, so I'm really not sure. If I had to take a wild guess, I would have to say it'* in the 100-300 dollar range. If I am wrong, please somebody correct me because I'm really not sure. A dealer would more than likely be your best bet at getting this fixed from here though.

If the display is flashing there is a stored code that will tell you what is wrong. The dealer can retrieve it.
