Dorman UIM Interference Fit & Update to my 98 Project
The saga continues..
I wanted to post a blurb to the members, in case someone has the same issue that I had with the new Dorman Upper Intake.
Here is a link to my Myspace page, and check out the 3800 Series II Explosion picture gallery, which was recently updated to show the new Intake, Smaller EGR Tube and etc.

After going into surgery to replace the lower intake gaskets, I was buttoning up the whole top half of the motor.
I went to put on the alternator, and there was an interference fit on the corner of the NEW Dorman manifold. (615-180)
The Old Manifold was a Napa "Improved" - which I believed to be a dorman as it was Made in Korea, and had a Flat LIP on the corner.
The New Dorman Manifold had a large reinforced corner that the alternator housing contacted, and would not go into place. Made in the USA (Figures they wouldn't check for fit)
I had to grind out the corner where it was hitting, as I could NOT take the manifold back to AutoZone after it had been bolted down. (Plus I wanted this piece of crap out of my garage)
Anyone else have this interference problem?
Also, just an update on my other threads - Vacuum in the crankcase went Bye Bye after LIM were replaced, and along with it, the Vibrating PCV Valve.
180 Deg Thermostat installed with the Tranny cooler, and the Machined down solid stock tube. This was a tight press fit, that I locktited into place, and sits BELOW the gasket. Tube ID is 1/2". Seems to work perfectly so far.....
Car runs good, but still has really poor Oiling at lower RPM'*. Idle after driving, the oil pressure drops into the 20'*. While driving, its around 40-50 psi.
The other issue is that Cylinder #4 is at 120 psi during a compression check, and all the rest are around 165psi. One Flyer at 172, but it'* still within the 70% the manual is calling out.
Sad for an engine that only has 11K miles on it....
Hope this helps someone out.
