Default Help with 97 SE random stalling problem

I have a 97 SE, and I have a problem where I would just be driving and it will stall on me. This happens at random times and sometimes more often then others. I have noticed an increase with the problem when it was raining along with a longer time to start the car. Has anyone had similar problems, or know a solution to it? Someone told me it could be the throttle plate, so i had that cleaned, and that didn't seem to fix it.

I am new to this site, and have been trying to seek an answer and find out more information about bonneville'* and Im hoping this is the right place

Thanks for your help

Well.. you either have bad ignition system ( allowing water to get in ), or it might be a crank sensor starting to go.

First things first, Welcome to the site. We should be able to answer most any question you can come up with about your Bonneville.

Now for the stalling. It just dies? :? I haven't heard of this happening as a trend. Do you loose electrical power when this happens (EG: lights)? Does it just flat stop or does it get a rough idle and then die? Any little tidbits and observations that you've made might help as well. Stuff like idle speeds, driving speeds, dimming lights, weather, driving style when it happens, or anything that you may see as not normal for your car.

thanks for the quick responses. usually it happens when im driving under 40MPH. it happens at times of, turning, regular street driving. I have just noticed an increase with the weather being wet out. I lose all power and steering locks (problem from losing power), Its a clean stall, just hear the unique chimes and the check gages light comes on, but never a check engine or other lights appear. I have to put in neutral and start up every time. Usually starts up right away after the stall out. :? any ideas???

Do a search on it.. I've heard a few people stating they're having similar stalling problems during turning..

Sorry... I"m a typical male... too lazy to search it...

any suggestions on where to search it at? That was my ultimate goal by joining this site, to gather as much information from here as possible about it, and hope to find people that had good sources or knew lots about it.

We've got almost 250 members now, hopefully someone else has seen this, but while you're waiting for someone to solve your headache, try using the search feature link at the top right corner of this page. You can search the entire archive for related articles! Deathrat can post you on any TSB'* or Recalls, as he'* the parts guy at a Pontiac Dealership up Canada way, and there'* some guys here with a WEALTH of experience. Worst case, if you don't get an answer here, you'll solve the problem through other means and post it here for OUR benefit! Good luck, and welcome to the coolest place around~

If this happens while turning sharply then it'* normal as the PS Pump will stall out the engine if overworked. This happens to me if I crank the wheel all the way to either side. :? If this not your problem then, look for any bare wires. You say it changes with weather & lets me believe that a possible bare wire is there! Check connectors too for loose connections.
