Default Driver Side Mirror fix

On my 95 SE .... My driver side mirror vibrates ... It looks like maybe a spring or something broke inside the mirror and now the glass vibrates when driving making it hard to see out of the thing.

How do I get behind the mirror to see what'* broken? I don't want to take it off the car ... Just want to get in behind the glass to see what'* broken. Do I pry off the black trim ring or somethng like that?

Any help would be appreciated ....

The only way to get to the back is to break the glass to access the screws holding the mirror plate to the gimbal mount. Replacement glass should be 5 or 10 bucks from a glass supplier.

Before you break it, be advised that'* how I did my 98Z71. I'm not sure if the Bonneville mirrors are servicable in that manner. I've never seen the inside of one. Anyone wanna chime in here?

Short of that, just call an auto glass place and price the glass. It may be worth the risk. The glass should be held onto the carrier plate (the plate that adjusts) with a silicone based adhesive. Install the new glass in the same manner after cleaning all the old stuff off, while holding it on with tape at least overnight (12 hours would be best). The glass shop can give you better instructions, or do it for you for a minimal charge.

The glass for my Z71 was only 15 bucks. The blue-tinted SSEi glass would be more, but you probably don't have it.

Well.. I don't remember seeing any glue marks when my passenger side one was busted.. its held in place by tape right now

I was wondering wat bill said.. and was thinking.. if you had to break the glas.. how the hell did they get it in then?

I'm missing the metal plate mirror holder plate on the passenger side.. and I"m wondering if the black trim around the side mirror housing can come off.. I'm tryin to work something out with olBlue right now in regards to gettin a heated driver side ( CAuse the bastid @ the shop replaced it with stock ones ).. so this would leave me an extra driver side.. I'm hopeing to then take the old one apart so I can see if I can interchange the piece needed for my passenger side from the old one.. If all goes well... I"ll get back to this thread in a week or so when I get the stuff and side mirror

BTW
Do you know if 92 and 97 have the same side mirror?? (housing, wiring and all )

Thanks for chiming in, Murdock. Yes, the mirrors are identical from 92-99. No changes. The glass can be purchased seperately, but I don't know what comes with it. Is it just glass? Or is the glass attached to something?

GM part numbers for glass are 12535332 (right) and 12535333 (left) for MANUAL mirrors,
12519414 (right) and 12508238 (left) for 92 power/remote/heated,
and 12519414 (right) and 12519415 (left) for 93-99 power/remote/heated,
and 12508235 (right) and 12508236 (left) for power/remote/NON-heated 92-99.

I'm assuming the 93-99 power/heated/remote is for the blue tinted glass. But that would mean the 92 SSEi didn't get blue mirrors? Can someone confirm this? Justin or John? Anyone?

I've got a drivers 94 SSE mirror, green with blue glass at home from Damemorder. It didn't look serviceable at all. And i'm not breaking the heated mirror

The glass can be pushed on but not pulled out sorta like a zip tie works, or a 1 time body piece. The only way to really know how its' in there is for someone to break one and show us all...
