Default Got Codes...Help Diagnose!

As some of you know I have been have had problems starting on occassion..Well I changed my ignition module and it stopped for a few months until yesterday....did the turning over and not starting..engine light came on and i took it to have the codes read..to a shop

Ok He scanned it and cleared all codes...took it for a test drive..came back and said there were a lot of codes in there pertaining to the Evap Emission Control System ( non for the crank sensor or ignition module) He said there were too many to just pinpoint one thing...He also asked if I gassed up with the car running..and that could have something to do with it.

Question could this code make the car turn over and not start?

What can i do/check to eliminate this problem...any pictures or diagrams of the evap emission system would be helpful..Can it be cleaned or something?..etc

here are my previous posts pertaining to this problemhttp://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9735&highlight=

Bridget, what exact codes did he get after he cleared them, and drove it? Those codes are critical for pinpointing the problem. Even if there'* too many, we may be able to spot a trail leading to the culprit.

That'* the thing I was expecting him to tell me all of them..but he said there were so many stored..that he would just clear them and wait for the cell to come back on them he could narrow it down..I asked him to try and remember them and the only thing he said was that there were a lot of evap emissions codes stored..he made me angry I told him I wanted to know the codes even if i had to pay him (he let the scanning go free since it was so many) the only ones he seemed to remember were evap then he said the car drives too good for all those things to be wrong with it :?:

He also asked me if the battery ever died or something?

Thanks but if the cell comes on again I will post the codes..I have been driving since yesterday and no cell!

Oh one more thing..sometimes (when the problem occurs) it is slow in cranking..not really slow but it takes like 2 seconds longer than it usually take.

not too much to notice but it is noticable!

thanks

Another thing I remember..after he cleaned the codes i left...when i got about 1/4 of a mile the temp went stright up..halfway of the guage.....I made another stop for about 10 minutes...started the car up and drove it a while..no more high temp it has been normal since :?: ..maybe useless infor but...

thanks

We really need those codes. I'm assuming we're talking about the 94 here?

I'm with JR's3800, I would try to locate another mechanic (ask around, friends family) he should never discount what codes he retrieves, even if there is alot of them. If he recorded the down, and did a true comparision on your next visit, he himself could've looked for a pattern. Best of luck, check your ground connections for your PCM (disconnect battery first) sounds like you could have an entire circuit getting funky on you.

I personally would not trust a mechanic when asked "What codes" said "I dunno, a bunch so I erased them". I smell a scam...

I apologoze for not looking at all of the posts (you linked) referring to this problem, but got to thinking and had two questions. Was the car doing this when you purchased it, and did you happen to clean the engine bay, power spray, degrease or anything like that recently?

Thanks to all for the replies..No it wasn't doing this until like 5 months o so after i purchased it..I replaced the ignition module and it stopped it until now..(ignition module tested bad by autozone)

OK the mechanic seemed ok ( as he didn't charge me for the scanning) I was under the impression that he thought that there were a lot of codes that could have been really old in there and not been cleared..not sure though..he said he wanted to narrow it down to what exactly was making it do it..so hte next time it does I will take it back and the would be the main problem per say :?:

thanks

Bridget, when you go back, make sure he writes down every code he finds, whether it'* a history (old) code or current fault. That can help us alot. That'* the key to killing this prob, and chances are, someone here has experienced something similar. We'll get you through this as quickly and economically as we can. I hate to see someone get ripped! (especially someone so dedicated to the Bonneville that she buys every one she sees).

With all those codes (if his story is accurate), I'm beginning to have the same suspicion I think Don is having......I'll reserve judgement until a later date, but it'* 3 letters
