Default Head Gasket or Intake

I have a 95 Bonne N/A, I know that almost all of these cars have had the failed intakes. I have only had one go, it was at 160,000, I now have 210,000 on my car. The car starting leaking coolant quite a bit. I loose a resevoir tank full in about 1.5 weeks. I thought it was something I did when I installed the 180 degree thermostat, but it'* not. I noticed quite a bit of the coolant coming from the front and back edge of the front head gasket area. It doesn't seem to be coming from around the upper intake base. I have no coolant in the oil, I checked yesterday during a routine change. I have no white smoke coming from exhaust. Head gasket failure doesn't seem to be too common around here. Is a failed head gasket a possibility or am I in for another Upper intake and lower intake change out.

Please help, I'm not much of a mechanic, but not too bad.

P.*. Being an engineer makes me realize that the dumba** that designed that intake must have not listened in engineering school. I woul like to kick that guy in the nuts.

I'm in agreement with Don.. Typically a head gasket doesn't leak that much or that quick unless a head is cracked. And neither head gasket or cracked head is common on the 3.8'*. Lower and upper intake gaskets...that'* a different story.

im with bill on this
but a typical headgasket failure comes about with alot of heat so if you overheated the motor than i would worry about head gaskets
if not def the lower intake also replace the upper intake with a Dorman OEM replacement

Sounds like the LIM gaskets. Plese don't wait until the coolant consumption increases to do the repair. If you do, you will stand a good chance of ruining the bearings in your engine.

If you haven't already read it, check out Don'* Techinfo article on this common problem: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=38
