Default Stalling at low speeds

About 2 times in the past 2 weeks my car has died while driving. It has been on hotter days and about 2 months ago i aded a K & N filter w/box. The first stall was as i was slowing down to make a turn my car just stalled on me, i lost power and everything. second time was friday afternoon on my way home from work. I was sitting in traffic going about a steady 5 or so mph. And I just lost power all of a sudden.

The car starts up fine everytime and I'm not running the a/c at all so I have no idea what it could be. I did have a p0446 code appear and removed some dust from the evap canister. Anyone else have problems like this, cuz i need to fix this soon. Been lucky and it died in some safer spots.

I'm wondering if me driving slow and the heat somehow caused this. It has been hot here in twin cities lately.

This could be a tough one. Has it been running good besides the couple times it has stalled? How'* it idling? How many miles on the engine? Has anything been done to the car recenntly? Anything else you can add will help narrow it down.

I like to start by eliminating some of the easier things.
Try checking & cleanig the battery cables.
You might want to change the spark plugs & wires or at least check the plugs.

Another important question. Have you been losing any coolant & does your oil look milky? Are you aware of the problem these cars have with intake gaskets & manifolds?

I had a similar problem when I first bought my car. I had it tested for codes and nothing was showing up so, I asked around and found that the most common answer was "These motors are known for crank sensor problems."
So... I brought it in and had the sensor replaced. But, before it was replaced, the mechanics cleaned up the little bit of corrosion from under the box, found some exposed wires (they were all still in their insulation though) and taped them up. They checked the grounds and cleaned them up aswell. After all of that, they replaced the sensor (this was all done in the same day). I haven't had any problems with it since.

Technical Ted: it appears to be running fine, when i start there is the big turnover and then it sorta gasps and then revs a little higher (i think this is due to the k & n, which was added in april this year.) otherwise it seems to run good. my exhaust doesn't smell right but it has a strong turnover
I did a uim swap at 130k, now I'm at 145k. i just changed the oil yesterday and didn't seem milky. I will have to check the plugs & battery tonight. Hopefully my bro can help me check the cam sensor if its not to tough to do ourself.

TGBOULIANNE: how much did it cost to have the shop replace the sensor?

** update it died today as i was turning down my street, now i had been driving and not sitting in traffic except the stoplight about 1.5 miles from where i turned and it stalled. **

Appreciate all the help guys.

Sorry for the delayed reply. Aprx cost was $160 CAN. Cost me 80 cuz it was covered under the 30 day warranty.

I finally fixed the problem it turned out to be a bad fuel pressure regulator. Swapped a new one in and have no problems since. Hopefullly this will help someone else as I was really starting to get worried and the fix was not to difficult.
