Completely Normal. There is a rev limiter built into the PCM.

The limiter is removed if you are rolling at over 15mph.

What do you mean be cut out engines dies or it will not go past 4k. Most bvilles have rpm limiter so it will not go past 4k in idle. It is bad for the motor to rev high when their is no load. You post the same time as did

Never free rev the motor like that. That'* the worst thing you can do to ANY engine.

In my opinion, the rev limiter should be set no higher than 2,000 RPMs.

Mazee...good chance your rattle is the shield on the cat converter. The welds frequently will break and rattle. If not..kick the cat and see if it'* internal.

When I used to own my 93 I was getting a rattle too. It ended up being the heat shield above the muffler, under the trunk. I screwed it back up and it was good as new. Check that area too.
