1998 Bonneville se. my heater only blows hot air on the passenger side of car defrost, vents, floor etc. but is not very hot at all on drivers side { cool air} any idea what would cause this. thanks tim

The description would lead me to think something is restricting the driver side. I don't think there is a balancing door from side to side, therefore I'd think you have something else in there.

One of the other people with a better idea should chime in soon...but odd.

This one has me stumped as well. It shouldn't be possible. He says he'* got air on the driver'* side, but not hot?

So it'* blowing cold on the left and hot on the right?

We had a similar complaint on a post about cooling system airbound.

Intermittent or poor heat can be caused by low coolant levels. Doesn't sound quite like your trouble, but it is free and easy to check out.

Check the level of coolant in the radiator when the engine is cold. Top it up if necessary, then bleed any air out of the system when the engine has warmed up enough for the thermostat to open.

If the cooling system is full and devoid of air, then a ducting problem is indicated.

Gentlemen: Is it possible for a flap to fail or break in such a way that the duct to the driver is blocked? Or what else would cause cold air to driver and warm air to passenger?

I don't think a duct blockage is possible given the current symptoms, but a duct being cracked or disconnected may very well be a possibility.

I'll check w/ Randman; I think he has a parts car in which he can examine the ducting.

No parts cars remain. He has extensive pics and removed ducting. Maybe he'll know.

Remove the passenger hushpanel and look up, particularly directly behind the center console/stereo location. I'm thinking it'll be visible if there'* a disconnect.

I have exactly the same problem on a 1995 Bonnieville SE. All AC/heat controls function as expected, except when heat is turned on, it only blows hot air on the passenger side of the vent, defrost, or floor. At the same time, the driver side blows the same amount of air in the same places, only it is cold. Darn cold these days, even though I'm in the "south"

I'm not sure if the A/C is coming on and blowing on the driver side or it is outside air blowing in, but I suspect it is just the outside air. Turning on the A/C makes the air feel slightly cooler. Either way, It'* pouring out cold air on the driver and hot air on the passenger.

Any help will certainly be appreciated.

To our knowledge there is only one air passage that supplies both driver and passenger on these non dual climate controlled systems.

To have airflow and not heat is to say the least...ODD.
