Question The Great Flood

Anyone aware of common leaking in a 96. Sometimes I am getting so much water around my spare tire area that it will overflow into the rear floor board. I had a water test done on the back glass, but they found nothing. I have recently taken all the coverage in my trunk out so that I might be able to see where it is coming from.

Take a look in your wheel wells and look for something like this. More then likely you will see this on the passenger side.

Is there a drainage by this area causing the problem? I saw a little rust in the trunk, but nothing like that.

That was a picture of a wheel well. Look for a hole, I believe the water is coming from under the car, not on top.

I will look for that, but one thing... I noticed the water when the car was sitting in the rain and noticed it the day after. How could water come from underneath?

Were you driving it? Was the carpet wet?

I was not driving. I got so much water in my trunk one time in the spare tire area that it overflowed into the rear floorboard. The "carpet" did get wet. Everything in the trunk get wet, but it wasn't while I was driving. I thought about getting in the trunk and taking a garden hose to see if I can get any results.

Check around where the spoiler attaches to the lid. Check all the weather seals. There have been other members that did that very thing. Let us know what you find.

One more place to check:

(From the school of hard knocks)

I had a leak like that. Mine started after I had some body work done on the rear of the car. Turned out there was a hole the size of the head of a pin *under* the right rear taillight lens. Water runs down that channel (around the trunk opening) and crossed the pinhole, letting water into the trunk. I found it using a light. Try putting a light inside the trunk (at night) and closing it, and try to see where the light comes out. Also try the other way (light outside, look from inside.)

You might also be able to find some traces of where the water is coming from; take out all of the interior from the trunk, and you will possibly see white stains on the inside where the water has evaporated.

Given the volume of water you are reporting, it should not be too hard to find.
