Ok, I know there are threads about this, and I have read them all. But you know me, I like to know EXACTLY what I am doing going into a project.

1. Pull fuel pump fuse and crank car to relieve pressure. This fuse is in the under the hood maxifuse relay center correct?

2. (See below) I should put a wrench on A and hold stationary, and put a wrench on B and turn the filter itself off.



3. For part C. I assume you move the grey part back toward the rear of the car and the filter will pop right off right? Or do I remove this part before step 2?

Does my fuel line look to rusted enough on the engine side of the filter that it is going to strip/break or is this pretty normal and nothing to worry about? Should I use a penetrating oil?

Would putting the front of the car on ramps not only give me more room but prevent spilling of gas? Or not so much?

Use penetrating oil. Those are the rustiest fuel lines I think I've ever seen. My fuel filter has the plastic clips on both ends.

I suggest turning the filter after you disconnect the plastic clip end, just squeeze the two sides of the grey side together then pull.

Ramps or not, you'll get fuel from one direction, so I suggest a small catch pan.

Logan... Good luck on that rusty line. Personally I'd look at that and be scared that when I got to twist it with the wrench the whole thing is gonna twist and break.

I'd recommend bringing it to a mechanic who has the lines ready to fix it. But there'* a chance with enough penentrant that it might just play nice. Really looks like the bully at the playground though.

Absolutely use penetrating oil and let it sit for a while. Just did mine this past weekend. (See the thread titled *.O.*. fuel leak) Ended up using vise grips on part A because all the corrosion caused the nut to round off using just a wrench. I am posting my update to that thread tonight. P.*. Wear safety glasses or a face shield to protect from spilling fuel.

I just doused it in Marvel Oil. Maybe it will be ready by tomorrow when I am thinking about doing this. Obviously I will use more when I go to do it actually.

Whats the worst that could happen? I have to replace that section of fuel line right?

Line wrenches usually help to make it so the nuts don't round. In your case I'd start to loosen that just a little and watch the line, see if it'* twisting. If not go back and forth a little to loosen it up a little at a time.

Anyone have the service manual? If so, what size is that nut supposed to be? Or would I be better off just starting with vise grips?

huh... that'* what my lines look like too. Must be a Michigan thing. I haven't dared to try it yet. Good luck to you...

screw pentrating oil the lines will twist and break anywayt cut the line get a compression fitting and reinstall i have a pic to show you
the compression fitting it in the right on the pick also if you take it to a mechanic 9/10 thats what they will do
