Default Few small problems....

One weird thing is, when I cold start the car, it has this whooshing sound apparently coming from the intake. If you floor it good enough it'll go away until you let off the throttle... after it warms up it goes away.

BUT

Thats not the thing that bugs me. Every now and then, at about 3k rpms and above you'll hear a nice whistling noise, like theres a leak somewhere. Even with stock everything it did it....what could it be? I'm assuming something on the UIM thats loose? I've tightened all of the intake parts down and it doesnt appear to be coming from that.

And also,

Sort of an erratic idle, I notice it'll jump about 1-200 rpms every now and then, is this normal? you cant even really hear it, its just annoying to see the tach jumpin around all crazy like lol :P

thats it for now for any/all help

Perhaps the whistling and jumpy idle are some kind of vacuum leak... Make sure to look over all your vacuum lines and fittings. Make sure everything is plugged in properly.

As for the intake whooshing sound, do you have a custom or aftermarket air intake setup? This is a characteristic of the 3800 on cold starts if you have replaced the stock airbox with a different setup. I suppose it can be heard on a stock setup as well, it just wouldn't be as loud as an aftermarket intake. I think the noise has been attributed to air rushing through the IAC valve in the throttle body when the engine is cold.

Also, check your PCV system for proper operation. The valve should rattle when lightly shaken. Also, check to make sure that the O-ring is in place around the valve.

Thanks guys... I'll take a look at both tomorrow... forgot about the vacuum, that could easily be the problem.

Yes with the whooshing its a custom/aftermarket/whatever you want to call it intake lol. I figured with the cold start being on a different map then when it warms up that might be the difference. Its just annoying lol, so I turn on the radio up high to drown it out

and btw any recommendations on mufflers. Payday is next friday And I want a nice sounding car...

I'd be very leanient about wrpaing up the motor when it'* cold. Pumping molasses (cold oil) thru the engine is not good for it. I get the same whooshing sound from mine when started on a cold morning and it is a stock intake
