Default Failed Upper?!!??..

i went to do an oil change today and i noticed a nice [b]little dam[/b ] of coolant below the UI its not much and it only seems to be on the front of the engine.
I cleaned and tested the car.the car seems to be running fine, even coolant level and engine temp... the poddle did not come back till later night.

something is leaking coolant.. and i believe is my upperintake gaskets , it has not been going on for long as i checked the engine a few days back, but i have been doing excessive driving lately ,

can it be something else leaking this coolant??
i have read that '94 L'* dont suffer from this as much as II'* and III'*
the leak creates a dam that seems to be comming from the UI but i am not 100% as the
the top bolts of the oil tank seem to be leaking coolant also..

im going to take pictures for u guys tomorrow..

can the gaskets be replaced without getting a new U&L intakes??

i will take it to dealer tmorrow for further diagnostics but i am sure it is the dreaded intake prob..
i am thankful for any help u guys can provide

the '94'* don't have the dreaded intake failure. They can still fail of course, but it'* not the dreaded failure.

Anyhew, recommend that you get your engine compartment cleaned up so that you can be sure where your leak is coming from - a clean compartment is a wonderful diagnosis tool...

The two prime suspects on your engine are the LIM seals (not the upper) and TB gasket.

We've never seen an L27 UIM fail. And a few have well over 200k on them now.

Likewise, I'd think it'* the upper intake gaskets only.

Thanks guys for your quick replies.

i have taken a fews pics to further help out..

here is the dam i found yesterday as i did the oil change..
notice how it seems like its comming from the UI

here is another pic of that one.

and the last one..

i do have to tell you guys that I cleaned my TB last week, i was unable to remove the TB due to a bolt which was too rusty to move ... so i remmoved the maf screen and cleaned it through there..
i did try to force the TB open..but everything i loosened i put back im 100%
dont know if this could have been the culprit.

The poddles found right under the TB seem to have the most coolant,
but from touching the TB it doesnt feel leaky...

im going to try to run the engine and see where the coolant seems to be escaping from..

sorry for the durty motor.. last time i cleaned it was before the winter.

what do you guys think?? UI,LI or TB?? or maybe something else
thanks once again for all your help guys

I would bet on TB gasket or LIM gaskets, like Willwren said. UIM failure or UIM gasket failure is uncommon for your engine. Not impossible, just not likely.

The previous owner of my car said this one went out at 75k. '93 L27 for those of you not paying attention. j/k lol

Ok
all your input has been helpfull guys,
i now hav a clear idea of what could be going on.
i will take it to the mechanic or dealership and have it fully diagnosed.

any clear ideas of what the price range would be to replace each
( including labor)
i know gaskets and seals wont cost much.

BUT if its the LIM does the engine hav to be pulled out??

thanks

They should not have to pull the engine to replace your LIM gaskets, but there is quite a bit of labor involved.

I personally don't know the cost breakdown to expect, especially since you haven't been able to narrow it down, but i expect that you'll spend at least $500 for diagnosis and a LIM gasket replacement at a dealership, likely more.

I hav not found coolant on the floor or pavement, just on the engine ( places shown above)

if it was LIM failure would there be coolant on the floor/pavement??

man this is not good!
