Default 95 Bonneville Shifting Issues No 1ST Gear

Hello,

I recently acquired a 95 Bonneville SE 3.8L with a locked up motor. I replaced the motor and all is good, but now the transmission will not go into first gear. It will just take off in second every time. although sometimes when you come to a stop it will downshift to 3rd but not to 2nd. Other than that it seems to shift ok through 2nd,3rd and 4th.

Other Notes: My VSS is currently not working due to broken connector. (Pending Install)

Also It idles at 1100 rpm and seems like im running about 2400 RPM @ 55MPH
Not sure exactly due to the speedo not working. But my GF following me said we were going 55.

Any help would be appreciated

Could the high idle be caused from the VSS aswell

No, a VSS will only cause the speedo to not work and the transmission not to shift correctly.

First off. Get the VSS fixed.

Then, correct the high idle...the engine swap may have caused this. What year did the donor come from?

TPS can cause a high idle however.
