Aftermarket Catalytic Converter
Has anyone put on a generic aftermarket Cat, only to find out it is fairly noisy? Instead of going for a OEM one, I went for a Walker. But since then it has been fairly noisy, especially when accelerating.
I have changed the muffler (another Walker), as well as the exhaust seal (donut) - the only thing not changed is the pipe itself. The only thing I can think is that the Cat wasn't installed properly (there is still a leak somewhere) - my mechanic used muffler clamps instead of welding. Would that cause the noise - any experiences?
Thanks.

Take it back and have them check for leaks. I wouldn't think an aftermarket cat would change your exhaust sound levels much. I had one installed in my Lesabre which they used clamps on. The guy had to work a bit to get it to seal.
How much was the Walker cat worth do you know?
Cheers,

Only $80 (and $70 for installation), so that'* why I didn't feel too ripped off.
My emissions is coming due, so I am panicking a bit.

Is it a Walker PERFORMANCE cat? If so, I would expect a slight change in exhaust sound. If you did the muffler, too, I would definitely expect it. It all depends on whether you bought performance hi-flow components or not.
Get them welded, in either case.
