Default Tires data for Bonneville 90 needed

Hi all!

Would somebody advise me the following:

Is it possible to install 1. 225/65/R15
2. 215/70/R15
tires instead of default 215/65/R15?

Many thanks in advance,

Wow! Another Russian member! This is great!

First off, welcome to the forum.

To answer your question, yes those tires will fit. There will be only a slight error in your speedometer display, since your first choice of tires is 13mm larger in diameter (-3.11 kph @ 160.9 kph). Since the tires are only 10mm wider, so there should not be any interference.

Your second choice, I would advise against. There will be more speedometer error, since these tires are 21.5mm larger in diameter (-5.07 kph@ 160.9 kph). You may also experience slightly less cornering manuverablity due to the taller sidewalls.

You can find out about other tire sizes here:
http://www.c5-corvette.com/tirecalc.htm

For example, you could go with 235/60R15 if you verified that there were no clearance problems due to the 20mm increase in width. Also, if you were looking to put 16" rims on your car, 235/55R16 tires would be almost an exact match.

Jay is Mr. Tire, but I can tell you that if you wanted to go up to 245'*, you could. 255'* will actually fit with minor modifications, but I'm betting you're looking at winter tires, so the narrower tires are a good choice.

235/55/16 will fit like a glove without any modifications.

Gentlemen, thanks all for replies.

My idea is to get wider tires with the same (or bigger) clearance from the ground. As for now I have 205/70/R15 tires installed on original GM 15'' rims. The car looks ugly with such narrow tires. From another side I used to go to the village with all big family while the roads are not very good here. From your comments I understood that 225/65/R15 is right that I'm looking for (appearance/clearance/price ratio). Just some more concerns: Will these tires fit my 15'' rims or I need to buy wider rims? Will I still be able to do max turn without any interference with the body of the car?

Again, many thanks in advance,

225 should be fine, and should fit stock rims. I'm not positive about the clearance on the 87 to 91 models, but I'm pretty sure there'* enough room. They're very similar to the later models in dimensions. Perhaps someone running wider tires on an older model can tell us how they work?

Anyway should try 225/65/R15 and then let folks know on how it goes on.

Many thanks

Good luck, and post your results. Someone else might want to try this.
