anyone try to cut hole thru trunk floor to replace fuelpump
My 98 Bonnie has 200k on it with al orignal fuel pump, alternator, starter, waterpump which im sure probably someday I will be replacing. The fuel pump seems as though it would be easy if it had an access panel in the trunk like the new ones. Anyone ever try cutting one in ?? How many mile befr this pump pukes out ??

Think this has been brought up b4,,, and I believe that the fuel pump access was not close enough. Yet, it would be easier to just drop the tank, replace it and be done with it, and not having to worry about cutting the hole, the hole rusting out the whole bottom side of your car. My 95 pump is still going strong last I knew. 186K miles.

Even if you could, you would still have to unhook the fuel lines & snake out the hard lines from the tank sensor/pump assembly while lifting the sender assembly about 8 inches to clear the tank.
It would take a very big opening.

One of the 2 "speed nuts" that held up my tank straps stripped out as soon as I started twisting the bolt.
I ended up cutting the strap to get the tank down, then buying replacement straps and nut/bolt combos to hold them up.
Please take your time when reinstalling so as to prevent having to drop the tank a second time (like I did) to attach the fuel screen to the bottom of the pump that was left off the first time
Amazing, though, how quick the task is accomplished the second go 'round.

From what I've read, the folks that have done it already almost always recommend buying the replacement straps up front. Makes for a quicker removal.

please remember that the Sender and the fuel pump assembly is located under the rear seat....NOT the trunk
and it is easier to drop the tank to do the replacement....its 2 bolts, and dropping the exhaust a little...there is no excuse to take the easy way out
