Default steering wheel controls, couldnt you...

use a small metal rod instead of the toothpicks. i made the toothpicks with one end jb weld coated, and all of em work great, im just wondering how well they are gonna hold up. i dont feel like doing this again, so im gonna do it right. if i got a metal rod cut the same length, wouldnt that work the same?

To much damage to the micro switches. The best yet probably most expensive way to do it would be to use arctitectual pencil rubber erasers.

ok ill stick with the toothpicks...i only did one side of them, will that be ok? it would be really hard to get both sides, as i would have to put it on while they are in the hole

I did it my first time from memory of when I read the instruction waaay bak when. Cut the toothpick 9/32nds of an inch long, put one in each hole, put the springs on and snap the switch rocker on.

Pics please, but then again, I won't be able to use the steering wheel controls after the Clarion deck arrives Tuesday.

Just be CAREFUL to disable the airbags correctly.

Disconnect the battery. Wait at least 10 minutes.
Pull the SRS fuse.
Disconnect the yellow harness under the steering column.

Wear body armor just in case.

I stuck with my stock rubber tabs, but added a spot of JB weld to each end.
They still work great. No toothpicks in mine.

Will,
I son't have to follow that procedure. I have no passenger air bag installed now (have one but am waiting for a uncracked dash and bag cover before I install it). So for right now the drivers SIR is disconnected, except for the horn and steering wheel controls (which dysfunctional at the moment -wishing I hadn't sold the perfect set from the original blown bag).

Heat and armor-all will do that.
