Default AC comprs removal ques

I'm planning on removing the AC compressor on my car, but the only question I have with the removal is, can I let the remaining coolant drain out by disconecting the lines, or do I have to go to a mechanic and let them drain it. I'm not to sure if letting it drain out is environmentally friendly, so that is why I ask. Also, any of you who have removed your AC compressors, what type of power/torque gains can I expect to see with the compressor removed?

Have it evacuated professionally to do the 'environmentally conscious' thing.

You would gain less than 5hp. When the AC compressor clutch is freewheeling, you're not using much power. It'* basically an idler.

Agreed... small hp gain and unless it'* already empty you should have it professionally done. The oil in the system is very acidic and can burn skin if not cleaned off w/soap and water quickly.

I don't need the added weight of the compressor, and the AC don't work so removing it is a no brainer

You can bypass the A/C on a L27 with just a smaller belt. . . . .Then check at the valve with a gauge/refill tool to see if there is any pressure in the lines. If there is some pressure you can release the pressure from the check valve with the gauge refill tool.
