P0102, P0171. MAF, Lean
I have had a MAF sensor prob in my mom'* car for some 3K mi. or something. Then we experianced hard shifting and got t it tested. It was giving the MAF code and the late shift code. The trans shop said that late shift can be caused by the MAF sensor. We replaced the MAF, and were still getting the code. It has been running a little rough on cold for another month, and then it got bad again. We are now getting the O2 sensor, Lean code. It has a little trans slip it feeels like, and it runs REALLY rough sometimes at lights. It drops down to 500RPM, and runs REALLY hard and rough to bring it back up to 800, and does that a couple times. Then it makes its way back to 1K rpm'* and kinda holds there. It varies there like 200RPM.
IT is a 98 SSEi
If someone could help me out, that would be great. I am not much of a gearhead.
btw, there is a hose coming out of the housing to the left of the MAF. My dad broke it trying to replace the MAF. the current hose it kinked. Could that be the prob. It leads to a tube behind the block.
Thanks

my taurus shifts hard 1-2. Hate to do this... but go to this link. http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/inde...howtopic=21170
That hose cannot be the prob. My dad broke it when installing the new maf, but I will take care of it and check.

Falcon... i didn't read all of that.... Got aggrivated when a member said they went electronic in 1991.... Thats not true as far as the Taurus is concerned... It used the Hydraulic unti untill 94, I believe that some late 93'* may have had the newer trans...
I have seen countless AXOD( metric ) and AXOD-E trannies fail... Usually heat related just like the old bonnie transmissions...
You have the electronic version... Its hard for me to say what the issues may be with the harsh shift... But being an electronic trans there should be no TV cable at all... You may need to find a tranny shop that works on a lot of the AXOD and AXOD-E transmissions that sat behind the Vulcan 3.0 and the 3.8 V6'*... The worst I have ever driven were the 92-93... I totally hated those transmissions... They flat out sucked.... The 94-95 models were much improved... But after 100,000 miles, any transmission is up for grabbs in terms of tranny death... So its something you may want to have looked at...

The MAF sensor has nothing to do with shifts whatsoever. Find another trans shop.
That hose sounds like a vacuum hose. And it can affect shifts. Fix it.
Then let'* see where you are.
Are we talking about a TAURUS here? Or a Bonneville?

VERY important question: Does the car stall at all?
If the car is stalling, I went through a very similar situation as you. Here'* the thread:
