Default P0102, P0171. MAF, Lean

I have had a MAF sensor prob in my mom'* car for some 3K mi. or something. Then we experianced hard shifting and got t it tested. It was giving the MAF code and the late shift code. The trans shop said that late shift can be caused by the MAF sensor. We replaced the MAF, and were still getting the code. It has been running a little rough on cold for another month, and then it got bad again. We are now getting the O2 sensor, Lean code. It has a little trans slip it feeels like, and it runs REALLY rough sometimes at lights. It drops down to 500RPM, and runs REALLY hard and rough to bring it back up to 800, and does that a couple times. Then it makes its way back to 1K rpm'* and kinda holds there. It varies there like 200RPM.

IT is a 98 SSEi

If someone could help me out, that would be great. I am not much of a gearhead.

btw, there is a hose coming out of the housing to the left of the MAF. My dad broke it trying to replace the MAF. the current hose it kinked. Could that be the prob. It leads to a tube behind the block.

Thanks

Definately fix the hose. Get the code cleared and let'* see where that puts you.

I've got the same problem. I'm real interested in how this turns out. My Bonnie shifts hard from 1st to 2nd. Never thought it could be related to the MAF.

my taurus shifts hard 1-2. Hate to do this... but go to this link. http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/inde...howtopic=21170

That hose cannot be the prob. My dad broke it when installing the new maf, but I will take care of it and check.

The MAF sensor has nothing to do with shifts whatsoever. Find another trans shop.

That hose sounds like a vacuum hose. And it can affect shifts. Fix it.

Then let'* see where you are.

Are we talking about a TAURUS here? Or a Bonneville?

VERY important question: Does the car stall at all?

If the car is stalling, I went through a very similar situation as you. Here'* the thread:
